After listening to this here Glass Casket debut a few times, I am fully underwhelmed by whatever this band is trying to accomplish. The young North Carolina act is walking down the same path that has seen the likes of Botch, Coalesce and Dillinger Escape Plan, but their parade has much less fanfare than many of the others that have gone before them. We Are Gathered Here Today is an amalgamation of riffs, tempo changes, buried rasping vocals and thick guitar tones. The trick to pulling off this sort of music is being able to line up your riffs in a way that move it beyond a mere collage of various riffs that happened to be hanging out in your practice space, drinking beers and smoking cigarettes. Where Glass Casket fails to impress me is in the songwriting. Dexterity of shifting tempos within a song and simple brutality do not make for a complete record. We Are Gathered Here Today sounds unfocused. It does, at least to these ears, sounds like a parade of random riffs. There is no flow to the songs.

As with many bands inspired by the likes of Dillinger Escape Plan, it takes more than throwing a bunch of ideas against the wall to make for interesting songwriting. Technical is one thing, but hardly enough to make for a record I want to hear over and over.
