Bands like this are rough to review. After all, how many synonyms for "energetic" and "unrestrained" can YOU come up with?
A year ago, I would have been hardpressed to really say anything positive about the ska-core scene. For an outsider, it can be somewhat difficult to break into the scene as there is a certain samey quality to the music. There are a few positive aspects the the ska craze sweeping the youth: it is at least fun and gets you pumped with energy. Less Than Jake is one of the more punk influenced bands, falling roughly into the same category as Buck-0-Nine. The majority of the songs feature distorted punk guitars, Ben Weasel-ish vocals, and one of the better horn sections around. There are a few breaks in the punked out frenzy to allow for some clean guitar and ska-infused rhythm. However, the entire work is quite the onslaught and will have you bouncing up and down in no time. Give me a few more listens and I'll know all the words.
And give me a few more listens after that and I'll probably have gotten entirely burnt out on their sound and won't play it for ages.
