Leviathan are a progressive metal fivesome from Colorado. This release from them is comprised of meaty songs with intelligent lyrics that need to be heard a time or two before they are grasped. The result is a disc that is sure to please the technical progressive metal fan.

There are obvious hints of Dream Theater influence on the disc. The songs are melodic and technical keeping in the same vein as many such Dream Theater clones. Several of the songs are long. The band really covers the waterfront of style and composition. There is a goodly bit of spoken word introducing songs if you go for that sort of thing. This disc is very similar to Images and Words in style and content. While that will impress the fan of technical proficiency, it doesn't shout out much originality in its overall appeal.

While there are some outstanding moments on this disc, I found the music to be almost antiseptic in its technicality. It was not terribly accessible. The level of passion was not as high as it could have been. I didn't find a sense of warmth and welcome with the disc. It was too cold. If you like razor sharp precision and don't mind the aloofness of the disc, you'll love Leviathan's approach here.
